Manufacturing Process Flow
Algoma's steelworks is situated on a 2000-acre site located at the hub of the Great Lakes in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada. A fully integrated operation, the Algoma plant has a raw steel production capacity of approximately 2.8 million tons per year. Primary operations feature three coke batteries, one blast furnace, two 260 BOF vessels, an LMF electric ladle metallurgy station and a CAS-OB chemical reheat ladle metallurgy station.
Algoma's cornerstone asset, the Direct Strip Production Complex is the newest continuous, thin slab caster coupled with direct hot rolling in North America. In addition, Algoma's conventional slab caster produces 8" thick slabs that feed the 166" Plate Mill and the 106" Strip mill.
On the finishing end, Algoma's Heat-Treated Plate facility provides a full range of high quality heat treated products for abrasion resistant, ballistic and other specialty plate applications. The Cold Mill complex offers additional value added services including pickling, reducing, annealing, tempering and slitting. First stage configured blanks from Quality Blanks International and large profile welded beams from our Welded Beam Division round out Algoma's product offering.
