The Welded Shapes and Profiles Division is an integrated facility at Algoma Steel that has been in operation since 1965. The division produces Welded Wide Flange (3 Plate Girders), Welded Reduced Flange, and Welded T Sections. Welded Wide Flange (3 Plate Girders) are manufactured in standard sections with published engineering properties, as well as special sections as per customer design. Manufacturing capabilities include 14" to 96" overall depth, maximum flange thickness of 2.75", and custom lengths from 20 to 80 feet.
Algoma's Welded Wide Flange sections can be manufactured using a variety of steel grades, and are also used to replace common rolled wide flange shapes 14" and greater in depth. They have been completely accepted by designers and fabricators, and have been used in high-rise office towers, power generating stations, and highway and railway bridges. The division also has CNC Flame Cutting capability to produce strip cutting for 3 plate girders, as well as double bevel plate profiling and detailing.
Special welding requirements, such as full penetration welds for dynamically loaded members, can be accommodated up to a maximum web thickness of 5/8" (16 mm). Supplementary testing, including X-Ray, ultrasonic, magnetic particle and liquid penetrant, is available for critical end uses subject to negotiation and acceptance.
