EAF Update: Installation of the Last Crane Girder

The installation of the last crane girder has officially completed the connection of our EAF building.

It has been an exciting couple of weeks at Algoma Steel as we mark yet another significant milestone in the construction of our electric arc furnaces (EAF).

We are thrilled to share the news that the installation of the last crane girder has officially completed the connection of our EAF building.

For those who have been following our journey, these crane girders may look a little familiar, especially if you caught a glimpse of their arrival on site in Walters Group’s video earlier this summer. If you haven’t, we encourage you to check it out here: https://bit.ly/3S8CUsN

The construction of Algoma’s EAF building commenced simultaneously from both ends and has successfully converged at the center. Crafted with Algoma’s signature steel plate, each crane girder stands at an impressive 100 feet in length, 16 feet deep, and bears the weight of 120 tons—a true testament to our unwavering commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The finishing touches on the structure of the building are now within sight as we prepare to install the final few roof trusses.

We are immensely proud of this achievement and thankful for the hard work and dedication of our entire team and partners. Together, we are building a greener future.
